In 1998 when the School started their advocacy in environmental protection by doing simple steps to contribute to save the fragile planet. It was strongly supported by the school administration until the small step become bigger and expanded to communities were the school is actively reaching out.
Partners came in from different forms of environmental protection and concerns which help the campus more active and able to improve their ongoing and new projects.
In 2007 when Solar Generation members from University of St. La Salle Bacolod and St. Scholasticas Academy conducted a photo and film exhibit in the campus to campaign the urgent global problem: global warming and they are talking of solutions that are simple and can be easily done by a student, teacher, utility, security services and the admin itself, the Green Campus project focused on Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation.
The observance of the international earth day was again discussed and the university wants the group to again set up their campaign exhibit and challenge to come-up with a project in which the school can implement. After seeing the Simple Lang Tool kit, Lecture on Energy Efficiency and Conservation and a demo on RE technology the University was very excited to meet up and discuss the project on Energy Efficiency and how they can integrate all of their projects into one.
The Green Campus was then born on the month July and it was agreed by all departments to immediately implement the project proposal which was endorsed by SolarGeneration and re-aligned by the Green Campus Committee (created during the first meeting) based on the campus requirements and capacity. The project started through information education communication campaign of the Simple Lang Save the Climate toolkit (switch-off, Unplug and light up efficiently) in the university were in-charge committee was tasked to execute their role while the college of Engineering conducts the energy audit to be submitted on the agreed time-frame.
By the end of the month the University presented the partial report education campaign generated savings (August 2008): Php 58,774.10 and presented the energy audit report which was then conducted by the Engineering Department.
Now the University is planning the use of energy generated from Renewable source (Solar) for their electricity consumption and the use of sustainable public transport which is the electric jeepney.
And yesterday it was formally launched all of the projects from Solid waste Management, Eco-Garden, the used of cooking oil for energy, Energy Efficiency and more was housed under the roof called Green Campus project during the observance of the week long Earth Day activities.
The University mentioned in the program how much they enjoyed and reaping the benefits of the success and in the closing they thanked Solar Generation and other partners for the inspiration and dedication to make all things into reality.
